St. Maarten on the corner has closed. They were in business since 1985. For the last couple years that place pretty much weirded me out. Go get your mugs, regulars.

Trashy beach

New specials at Boylan for the new school year. I'll get those to you soon. For now...

Friday is Boylan's annual beach party. This year the theme is Jersey shore style. Get your trash on. They will have $1 tall boy Natty cans from 9-11pm and then they'll be $2 for the rest of the night. Also, $8 trash cans (blue motorcycle with a red bull dumped upside down).

Pigeon Hole

Pigeon Hole has a bar now. And by "now," I mean at least 2 months ago. Their specials are up, with some delicious beers for happy hour. And whatever Rock-n-roll Bingo and Drunken Spelling Bee are, I wanna play.

Ha! Science needs you, dear drinker, to contribute to it's body of knowledge. Go be experimented upon. UVA's Center for Addiction Research and Education is looking for people they can pay to drink. Up to $200. That's like a 2000% discount. Best. drink. special. ever.

Do you like to drink Beer?
Volunteers ages 21 to 45 are needed for a new investigational medication study
examining cravings for alcohol. Participants will take two 5-day periods of an
investigational medication (Strattera®) and make 5 outpatient visits to the UVa C.A.R.E.
clinic. On two visits, participants are asked to rate their mood and craving levels after
drinking alcohol. Study-related tests include blood, urine, and breath alcohol level.
Medication and mental and physical exams are provided at no charge.
Compensation is up to $200.

Late night food, and new specials

Two new places doing late night food now. Qdoba is open till 3am and the newly opened Buttz BBQ is open late night too.

Pigeon Buttz

Two new places on Elliewood.

Pigeon Hole has opened where L7, Cantina, and Martha's Cafe used to be. They've got brunch and lunch. No drinkies, but they do have $2 bottomless coffee. Unfortunately, they removed the bathtub/aquarium from the bathroom, so I can't wash my hair in there anymore.

Next to them, Buttz BBQ just opened. They're soft-opening lunch next week and adding dinner hours the week after. They'll eventually have some microbrews on tap too.

Backyard Sessions

Backyard has added $2 Sessions to Friday and Saturday specials. I wouldn't normally bother posting a single addition, except to remind you that the Backyard also has 25¢ drafts on Fridays. 25¢ drafts! From 5pm to 5:20pm, instead of doing laundry, you can have 10 beers.

$5 sandwiches and wraps at Trinity all week

Bar Night with WIMS, Friday at Baja Bean

Drink cheaply for women. WIMS (Women in Math and Science) is having another fund raiser this Friday at Baja Bean on the Corner, 7pm–10pm. $3 margaritas and $2 drafts if you donate $4 for a cup.

From WIMS:

Chow down on (free) tasty[sic] Tex-Mex, mingle with other (super cool) graduate students, and purchase an (awesome) cup from WIMS for a drink special. Proceeds from the cups will be used for WIMS outreach activities, which include visiting local elementary schools for science experiments and bringing area high school girls to tour UVA research facilities. Buying a cup for $4 will allow you to enjoy $3 margaritas and/or $2 drafts for the duration of the event!

All you can drink fundraiser happy hour, Friday at Trinity

Friday at Trinity, 5–7pm, appetizers and all you can drink beer for $4. The money goes toward getting kids and girls interested in math and science.

This Friday, October 22, from 5pm to 7pm, the Graduate Biosciences Society (GBS) and the Women in Math and Science group (WIMS) are hosting a happy hour at Trinity on the corner. $4 gets you in the door, free appetizers, and all the beer you can drink from 5pm - 7pm. Proceeds benefit GBS and WIMS. The money WIMS raises through hosting happy hours goes towards funding outreach projects, such as teaching science lessons in local kindergarten classrooms, and bringing high school girls to UVa in the spring to shadow graduate students for a day.

'Nuts

The Dunkin Donuts on the corner is set to open "LATE Friday night." And they will be open 24 hours, which is nice. I'd rather bask in the glow of a neon Hot Now Doughnuts sign as I stare drunkenly mesmerized at doughnut-fabricating machinery. But Krispy Kreme isn't opening a store, are they. Dunkin Donuts is. Anyway, if you feel like inducing the voms at 3am, grab yourself a couple donuts on your way home.
